The skin resurfacing laser is a state of the art laser for removing wrinkles and scars of the face. Laser skin resurfacing has been performed for over a decade and has shown itself to be a consistently safe and effective treatment option.
Laser technology allows for the removal of wrinkles and scars by resurfacing the skin to a precise depth, while limiting the transfer of heat to the surrounding tissue. As a result, abnormalities of the skin can be safely and effectively treated, allowing refreshed skin to emerge.
Laser resurfacing is performed on an outpatient basis using IV or general anesthesia. Skin resurfacing requires between 20 to 90 minutes, depending on the size of the area to be treated.
After the procedure, the treated skin will require the application of facial ointment and regular washing with a mild soap. Some degree of redness, much like sunburn, will follow the procedure. This can last from 6 weeks to 6 months. This redness can be camouflaged using make-up. It is important to avoid excessive sun exposure for the first six months and to use sunscreen when outdoors.
